Hobo
Die Idee zu dem Song.
1971 wurde der Abenteuervierteiler "Der Seewolf" mit Raimund Harmstorf als Wolf Larsen und Edward Meeks als Humphrey van Weyden im Fernsehen ausgestrahlt. In diesem Film wurden auch die Hobo´s, die Tagelöhner und Landstreicher gezeigt, die es sich unter den Waggons der Eisenbahn "bequem" machten und so kostenlos von einem Ort zum nächsten reisten. Dabei durften sie nicht einschlafen, weil sie dann oft auf die Gleise fielen, was meist tödlich endete.
Der amerikanische Schriftsteller Jack London, der den Roman "Der Seewolf" verfasste, gehörte selbst zu den Hobo`s und bereiste weite Teile Amerikas und Kanadas, bevor er selbst berühmt wurde.
Das neue Lied - diesmal in englischer Sprache gesungen- handelt von diesen Hobo´s, die doch vermeintlich ein freies und relativ sorgloses Leben führten, von der Gesellschaft aber selten Beachtung fanden.
Bewusst offen bleibt, ob der Hobo aus meinem Song am Ende durch den Zug oder durch die Ignoranz der Gesellschaft so endet.
The idea for the song.
In 1971, the four part adventure "The Sea Wolf" was broadcast on the television with Raimund Harmstorf as Wolf Larsen and Edward Meeks as Humphrey van Weyden. This film also featured the hobo´s, the day laborers and vagabonds, who made themselves "comfortable" among the railway wagons and thus traveled free of charge from one place to another. They were not allowed to fall asleep, because they often then fell on the tracks, which usually ended deadly.
The American writer Jack London, who wrote the novel "The Sea Wolf", was himself a Hobo and traveled extensively in America and Canada before he became famous.
The new song - this time sung in English - is about these Hobo's, who supposedly led a free and relatively carefree life, but were rarely noticed by society.
It is deliberately left open whether the hobo from my song ends up like this because of the train or because of the ignorance of society.
